PEARS AS MERE URCHINS

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

I don`t like pumpkins
But I love ripe pears
When I`m in tears
They serve as my urchins.

HOUSE ON LIES

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

It`s a black house
Sun dried bricks
Not the dreaded cement blocks
And it`s all for lovely Alice.

I`m a church man, not a church mouse
So if you come here full of tricks
Don`t bank on my new clocks
All the things you say will be termed, "lies".

SUNDAY, SUNDAY

For Gloria Hunniford, in loving memory of the TV programme she hosted by tht name and which I enjoyed very much, during my years in Britain.

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

Sunday is my best day
It`s relaxing and not too stressful
And of course, it pushes me towards the Lord
Without my Sunday frankly, I`d be lost.

SEALS OF FEAR

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

No, the ones you sent are stil here
Their seals refused to open
But if a good Samaritan had put some in the oven
Then no one would have been struck by fear.

THE REAL TRADE

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

I'm not your flower dealer
I'm a nectar buyer
There's a difference
But accept it with reverence.

THE ODD WOMAN

span style="font-style:italic;">
By Tikum Mbah Azonga

She lived for herself
Partly down, partly up
All her gold and diamonds were on the shelf
Because she feared any bust up.

No one went in, no one went out
Of her crimson red lone house
Did she know about the rout?
Or did she yearn for yet another louse?

If all there is to life is wealth
With nothing else being important
Then by far, I prefer health
So that in many ways, I can be distant.

MY LIFE AS A JUDEAN

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

Darling, do you love me?
Or are you just patching up?
I’m not a “come live with me”
I’m a woman of substance.

I never let water get to my knee
That’s because it would provoke a hiccup
Yet my knee is my key
That’s why I have life in abundance.
