THE DIFFERENCE IN COLOURS

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

A yellow ball isn`t the same
As a yellow balloon
Both are round, yes
But one is near
And the other, far off.

STUCK WITH A LEAKING SINK

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

My sink leaks
And this has been so for weeks
Is it a faucet or the drain tap?
No plumber can tell me
When they come the leak stops before they look at it
Then they just see the pool of water
Once they`re gone it all begins again.

If there`s any such thing as home improvement
Then where is the Home Problem Solver?
Don`t tell me about the plumber again
I know other homes have leaking sinks
But why are my cabinets, vanities and cavities spared?
Instead after the floor carpet it`s always
The shut-off valve, the D.I.Y. book
What shall I do about my sink trap problem
I fear that before long mildew, rotting wood and mould
All of those vices will set in
And then we`ll all be stuck in the mud
Can someone out there help me?

THE GAMBLING GENES

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

It`s not expensive
Although it`s extensive
It`s a crow bar with a chisel
But no axle and no piston.

It has genes that are clearly recessive
Its clinical methods are preventive
But don`t blow the whistle
In case they think you`re from Brixton.

BUILDER BY ANOTHER NAME

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

I can very well pinpoint engineering
But not the engineer
Why, isn`t it all about metals, chemicals and formulars?
Engineering is scientific and empirical
It works according to laws and principles.

Building construction, stevedoring
Site plans, site offices, factory, overseer
It`s not nature, so neither the pulmonary artery nor the premolars
It`s statistical, concrete, weightable, measurable and inimical
When it passes, in its wake, it leaves architectural ripples.
