A GEOLOGIST’S PRAYER

(For my brother CHEO Johnson Mulutakwi who fell while probing issues of geology)

I would like to be a geologist
A geologist isn’t a geographer
There are common denominators
But also points of divergence.

I want to learn about petrology and hydrology
I want to probe seismic explosions and the outburst of lava
The genesis and evolution of stalactites and stalagmites
I want to measure the density of lake gases
I want to prospect and mine and drill.
So God, help me.
