Let`s break this circle
And get out of here
Or do we want to go on limping
As if we were punished for the world`s sins?

A SLIP OF THE TONGUE
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
Did he really say that?
Or are you kidding?
Does he know what he`s up against
Or does he think that because his retired uncle owns the town
Everyone is now his slave?
All they can do is feed themselves fat
And keep everyone else, even the widows dangling
And then turn round and accuse everyone else of betraying angst
Does that tart really know he’s a clown?
Yet the lout thinks that in the entire world he alone is brave.

THE FON`s young wives
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
We were near the end
But not dead
When the first Nchinda yawned
And we thought the cat was found
The Fon pulled out a loaf of bread
And his young wives he started tending.

TWO MEN UP
By Tikum Mbah Azonga

The vice chancellor stood up first
And he did so without any prom ting
When the stewed then rose for thirst
Everyone was yelling and pointing.

MEN WHO REFUSE TO GROW UP
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
Not all men refuse to ride high
Some dig in their heels
And immediately sign the attendance register
Only those who enter the room with wet pants
And whose only word of honour is "Huntingdon"
Talk tongue-in-cheek
By so doing
They think they`re spiting the former prime minister
Yet at the end of the day
When the balance sheet is drawn up
They will be the only ones with protruding shirt buttons
Rounded red faces, distended and dehydrated bowels
And worn out trousers that refuse to buckle.

SEEN FROM BEHIND
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
I missed the ladder
I missed it by inches
And in its place
I had goose pimples
If you doubt me
Check out the back stairs.

DELAYED BIRTHS
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
If I had my way
I`d change this world
I`d ditch Thora Hird
And put off all births till May.

TROUBLE AT THE PALACE
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
Let them know
And let it be known now
That the cock didn`t crow
Neither yesterday nor today
So, there is something wrong
If the `Prince Héritier` doesn`t return
We`ll all be in deep trouble.

THE SCENARIO
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
When I return
It will be the Feast of the Passover
There`ll be no cryptic intimations
No canon fodder
No cyanide guava.

RETURNING CITIZENS
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
Ice cream, just ice cream
That`s all I want
So if you`re long at the rail crossing
Be prepared for the wrath of the returning citizens.

COCK AND BULL STORY
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
We all stood on the bridge long enough
So don't listen to them
Despite the hurricane
We stood our ground.
After the tempest
Came the raz-de-marée
They certainly weren't there
So, don't believe a word of what they say.

THE CHAIR AS WEAPON
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
She tipped the chair
She did it intentionally
On purpose
She did it so that I would fall
And then she would play the Good Samaritan.
But I also have my fair share
That’s why I sensed it intuitively
And quickly fetched the red rose
Surely, it wasn’t her childhood football
But it was God-given salvation from Satan.

THE TAX COLLECTOR
By Tikum Mbah Azonga
I’m not a county Court judge
I’m only a local tax collector
Worried about tax evasion
And the yearly shortfalls
Don’t show me the bench
I want the tax tickets.
I won’t be the first to fudge
Neither will I be the first council housing evictor
What I need is total conversion
Even if it’s at the Ayaba Falls
No one, not even the garden wench
Can any longer hide behind the thickets.
