100 KILOMETERS TO NOWHERE

For Chantou

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

The nostalgia of repatriation
That's what keeps haunting me hourly
Nostalgia isn't necessarily bad
But repatriation to me is a taboo
The idea of being grabbed
Bundled into a hasty plane
And then being dumped at one's doorstep.

How then can there be reconciliation
When the price is so heavy?
Although some may think those who venture are mad
It can't be as easy as going to the loo
We here at ENSAB fear being nabbed
And in any case, we prefer to remain sane
Rather than daily cry for help.
