The poem flash back talks about the ability for man to retrospect that is to think of some thing that happened in the past and to be able to know why he or she did it.I think when you talk about vacuum/emptiness you refer to the inability for man to to think before he reacts.
I believe short poems always carry a lot to pass across.
Yes. Looking back in anger or at anger can have salutary effects.
