(For Idang)

By Tikum Mbah Azonga

Life without Jesus is death
And after that, hell on earth
We’re not talking about red roses or red carpets
We’re talking about fake copies of the Vatican frescos
No one who casts aside the Lord can stand still
Such people will whither and die like the jilted plant
By the way, Jesus is not only about church
And he said so.

By dying the Son of Man conquered death
But only if we see his dying as a new birth
In no way does he consider us as pets
No. We are his priciest echoes
That’s why when we put our hand to the till
Let’s work like the ant
Let’s not lurch
Otherwise he may term it the Spanish “curso”.
